Q&A Not feeling good about test today...

I took the CPC exam 15 years ago and passed with NO problem...worked as as coder for about 7 years (hospital setting..ED and Outpt surgery) before adopting 3 children and becoming a stay at home mom. Well...Long story short, license lapse (stupid mistake, yes, I know) and now that kids are older, I wanted to return to work so I took the exam prep course and took the CPC exam today...WAY different than I remember it...Or I'm just not as sharp as I once was?!?!? LOL!!! There were a couple of questions about what forms to file in a doctor's office and what place of service code to apply...I didn't know either..I mean, I've heard of them, but wasn't something I could look up giving the books available for the tests, could I???!!! Where would I find this information out?? Coding scenarios weren't an issue, but TIME was for me today...feeling defeated and OLD

Hi Jennifer,

Sorry to hear you're feeling defeated :(

What kind of prep did you do?

Please schedule a call with me and I'd be happy to go over a strategy for your next exam attempt if you need it. http://cco.pe/1CcwUyc

I did the Blitz...videos and notes were very helpful, just didn't have time to finish! The questions about the forms and place of service codes stumped me too..going to review the videos and slides again and again in hopes of re-taking it. It would have to be a MIRACLE if I passed because I simply ran out of time and had to "Christmas tree" way too many!

I had that same problem today. I did not know what place they wanted me to code. The questions on quite a few were not clear. I took my exam 7/25/15

Jennifer, Hopefully you and I passed. I agree with you that the exam is hard. Did you notice the terminology and then when they did scenarios with layman terms you had to figure out what part of the body you were in as there were codes for different places? It was truly draining, but I as you left the workforce to raise 5 children. Which exam did you have for the CPC?I am just thinking that the one I had was so time consuming and hard, I thought it was my nerves at first, but then it just kept getting harder and harder.
Laureen, I think we need you to sit for the CPC again :)

I feel better about the CPC exam today. I am happy that I was given the chance to sit for a national board certification for something that I enjoy. I am ever so grateful that I found CCO. Everyone of the people who keep CCO going my teen noticed that they have a wonderful attitude.
Laureen, hoe you know that I was joking around about retaking the CPC by the way.
As hard as it seems at times just remind yourself, as I did today, that you made it this far and can say to yourself that you actually were able to take a national board certification exam!!! Not many can say that but we here can.

Jennifer,

You never know you may have guessed right. You have a 50/50 shot. Hang in there and if for some reason you did not pass, you have the retake and you will be better prepared.
